Women's Health Physiotherapy at Every Stage of Life

Do you experience back pain, bladder leaks, or core weakness following birth? Is pelvic pain or painful intercourse impacting your daily life or your sense of intimacy?

Women’s health is multifaceted and deeply personal. At DX Physio, our experienced female physiotherapists provide tailored women’s health physio care to support you towards moving with greater confidence, strength, and comfort.

Women's Health Conditions We May Assist With

Our women’s health physiotherapy programs are tailored to assist with a wide range of conditions, including pelvic floor concerns, postnatal care, and much more.

How Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy May Help

It’s common for women to come to us after months or even years of dealing with back or hip pain that keeps returning, despite trying stretches, massage, or general physiotherapy.

One area that is frequently overlooked is the pelvic region. Pelvic muscles that are weak, tight, or out of balance, especially following pregnancy, menopause, or surgery, may have an impact on your posture, stability, and breathing.

This is where a tailored women’s health physio approach may make a difference:

Confidence and Comfort

Our holistic approach may help you develop a better understanding of your body, build strength, and work toward feeling truly comfortable in your own skin.

Life’s Changes

Throughout a woman's life, her body undergoes many significant changes. Women's health physio may help support you through each of these stages with greater ease.

Open Conversations

Our women's health physiotherapists are committed to providing a judgment-free space where open conversations are welcomed and compassionate, targeted care is always offered.

Are birth, surgery, or menopause leaving you feeling less like yourself?

Our women’s health physiotherapists are here to support you on your journey back to feeling like yourself.

Treatment Approaches for Pelvic Floor Physio in Neutral Bay

We take time to look for the underlying cause of your concerns, which may help us better understand your needs and tailor your care using a range of treatment options.

Answering Your Women's Health Physiotherapy Questions

Pelvic health physiotherapy may be appropriate if you are living with chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, painful intercourse, or challenges with bladder and bowel control.

Many women also choose to see us throughout pregnancy or in the postpartum period for guidance on exercise, core recovery, and pelvic floor health.

Prolapse symptoms may vary, but commonly include a sensation of heaviness or pressure in the pelvic region, a bulging or dragging feeling, difficulty with bowel movements or bowel control, and discomfort during intimacy.

In addition to pelvic health conditions, our team has experience in supporting musculoskeletal concerns such as back pain, hip pain, and pregnancy-related issues. We take a holistic approach to care with a focus on improving overall quality of life.

Your initial appointment will begin with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, and goals. Your physiotherapist will then carry out a thorough assessment, which may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination (internal examination only with your consent)
  • Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess your core and pelvic floor activation

From there, we’ll work together to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs and comfort level.

Manual therapy may be incorporated into your treatment plan to help manage tension or restriction in the pelvic area and surrounding musculoskeletal structures.

Initial assessments are typically 60 minutes long, allowing time for a detailed consultation and physical assessment. Follow-up appointments are usually around 45 minutes, though this may vary depending on your individual treatment plan.

No referral is required. You can book directly with us. However, if you have a referral from your GP or obstetrician, please bring it along so we may coordinate care as needed.

You don’t need to do anything in particular to prepare for your first visit. Comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing is all we recommend. If an internal examination is deemed appropriate, your physiotherapist will explain everything clearly. Participation is always optional and consent-based.

Progress varies from person to person and depends on your condition and goals. With consistent adherence to their home exercise program, many women may begin to notice improvement within three to six sessions.

We focus on long-term recovery and function, not just short-term symptom relief.

Physiotherapy during pregnancy may assist with managing back or pelvic girdle pain, improving posture, and helping your body prepare for the birthing process.

In the postpartum period, we may support you with abdominal separation recovery, pelvic floor strengthening, pain management, and a guided return to exercise.

Recovering from pelvic surgery may have an impact on pelvic floor function, movement, and comfort that is not always considered in standard post-operative care. Our team is experienced in pelvic floor rehabilitation and is here to support your recovery at a pace that feels right for your body.

Sexual health is a vital component of women’s well-being that is often not given the attention it deserves. Painful intercourse or pelvic floor muscle tension may affect your intimacy and quality of life in meaningful ways.

Our team of physiotherapists is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care in a judgment-free space, supporting you in addressing these health concerns with sensitivity and respect.

When appropriate, our team works in collaboration with other health professionals, including GPs and obstetricians, to help ensure your care remains coordinated and comprehensive. We believe that truly holistic care requires looking at the whole picture, not just one aspect of it.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is covered by most private health funds under Physiotherapy: Extras. If your general practitioner has referred you under an Enhanced Primary Care plan, you may also be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to five sessions per year. We are happy to help you check your eligibility at the time of booking.

We understand that life can be busy. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.

Cancellations within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment or missed appointments may attract a cancellation fee, as that time has been set aside specifically for your care.
