Women's Health Physiotherapy at Every Stage of Life

Are you struggling with back pain, bladder leaks, or core weakness after birth? Is pelvic pain or painful intercourse affecting your daily life or intimacy?

Women’s health is a deeply personal and complex area of care. At DX Physio, our experienced female physiotherapists offer tailored women’s health physio programs to support your confidence, strength, and comfort in movement.

Women's Health Concerns We May Help You Navigate

At DX Physio, our women’s health physiotherapy services may help support a wide variety of conditions, ranging from pelvic floor issues to postnatal care and more.

What Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy May Do For You

Many women visit us with persistent back or hip pain that hasn’t responded to stretches, massage, or general physiotherapy. Despite their efforts, the discomfort continues to return.

The pelvic region is often an overlooked contributor to ongoing pain. When pelvic muscles are weak, tight, or imbalanced, particularly after pregnancy, menopause, or surgery, they may affect your posture, stability, and even your breathing patterns.

This is where women’s health physio may be able to support you:

Confidence and Comfort

Our holistic approach is designed to help you gain a deeper understanding of your body, build strength, and work toward feeling more comfortable and confident in yourself.

Life’s Changes

Throughout a woman's life, her body undergoes many significant changes. Women's health physio may help support you through each of these stages with greater ease.

Open Conversations

Our women's health physios offer a judgment-free space to talk openly and receive compassionate, targeted care.

Are birth, surgery, or menopause leaving you feeling less like yourself?

Our women’s health physiotherapists are here to support you on your journey back to feeling like yourself.

Pelvic Floor Physio Kurraba Point Treatment Approaches

Our approach involves looking beyond the symptoms for the root cause of your concerns, which may allow us to tailor your care using a variety of treatment options.

Common Questions About Women's Health Physiotherapy

Pelvic health physiotherapy may be appropriate if you are living with chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, painful intercourse, or challenges with bladder and bowel control.

Many women also see us during pregnancy or postpartum for guidance on exercise, core recovery, and pelvic floor health.

Some common symptoms of prolapse may include a feeling of heaviness or pressure in the pelvic area, a bulging or dragging sensation, challenges with bowel movements or bowel control, and discomfort experienced during intimacy.

In addition to pelvic health conditions, our team has experience in supporting musculoskeletal concerns such as back pain, hip pain, and pregnancy-related issues. We take a holistic approach to care with a focus on improving overall quality of life.

Your initial appointment will begin with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, and goals. Your physiotherapist will then carry out a thorough assessment, which may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination (internal examination only with your consent)
  • Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess your core and pelvic floor activation

Together, we’ll create a personalised treatment plan that suits your needs and comfort level.

As part of your treatment plan, manual therapy may be used to help address areas of tension or restriction in the pelvic region and surrounding musculoskeletal structures.

First appointments are usually around 60 minutes in length, incorporating a detailed consultation and physical assessment. Subsequent follow-up sessions generally take around 45 minutes, depending on the nature of your treatment plan.

No referral is necessary; you can book directly with us at any time. However, if you have received a referral from your GP or obstetrician, we encourage you to bring it along so we may work collaboratively with your broader care team.

There is nothing specific you need to do to prepare for your first appointment. We suggest wearing comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Should an internal examination be appropriate, your physiotherapist will walk you through what this involves; it is always optional and entirely consent-based.

Every woman’s journey is different, and the number of sessions required will depend on your condition and goals. Many women may begin to notice positive changes within three to six sessions when their home exercise program is followed consistently.

We focus on long-term recovery and function, not just short-term symptom relief.

During pregnancy, physiotherapy may help manage back or pelvic girdle pain, improve posture, and prepare your body for birth.

After childbirth, we assist with abdominal separation recovery, pelvic floor strengthening, pain management, and return to exercise.

Recovering from pelvic surgery may affect pelvic floor function, movement, and comfort in ways that aren’t always addressed in standard post-operative care. Our experienced team offers pelvic floor rehab to support your recovery at a pace that suits your body.

Sexual health is a vital component of women’s well-being that is often not given the attention it deserves. Painful intercourse or pelvic floor muscle tension may affect your intimacy and quality of life in meaningful ways.

In a welcoming, judgment-free environment, our physiotherapists deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to help you address these important health concerns.

Where appropriate, our experienced team works collaboratively with other health professionals, including GPs and obstetricians, to help your care stay coordinated and comprehensive. We believe that holistic care means looking at the whole picture, not just one piece of it.

Most private health funds cover pelvic floor physiotherapy under Physiotherapy: Extras. If you are referred under an Enhanced Primary Care plan from your general practitioner, you may also be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to five sessions per year. We can help you check your eligibility during booking.

We understand that life can be busy. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.

Cancellations within 24 hours or missed appointments may incur a cancellation fee, as this time is reserved especially for you.
