Supporting Women's Health Through Every Stage of Life

Are back pain, bladder leaks, or core weakness after birth affecting your quality of life? Is pelvic pain or painful intercourse getting in the way of your daily activities or intimacy?

Women’s health is multifaceted and deeply personal. At DX Physio, our experienced female physiotherapists provide tailored women’s health physio care to support you towards moving with greater confidence, strength, and comfort.

Conditions We May Support Women With

Our women’s health physiotherapy services are designed to assist with a broad range of conditions, from pelvic floor concerns to postnatal care and beyond.

How Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy May Make a Difference

We often see women who have been living with ongoing back or hip pain for some time. They may have tried a range of approaches, stretches, massage, and general physio, yet the pain persists.

What is often overlooked is the role of the pelvic region. When the pelvic muscles are weak, tight, or out of balance, particularly after pregnancy, menopause, or surgery, they may affect your posture, stability, and even your breathing.

This is where a tailored women’s health physio approach may make a difference:

Confidence and Comfort

Taking a holistic approach, we aim to help you understand your body better, build strength, and support your recovery so you may feel more at home in your body.

Life’s Changes

The female body changes considerably over the course of a lifetime. Women's health physiotherapy may help you navigate these changes with greater comfort and confidence.

Open Conversations

Our women's health physiotherapists are committed to providing a judgment-free space where open conversations are welcomed and compassionate, targeted care is always offered.

Struggling after birth, surgery, or menopause?

Our women’s health physiotherapists are here to support you on your journey back to feeling like yourself.

Pelvic Floor Physio Allambie Heights Treatment Approaches

Our approach involves looking beyond the symptoms for the root cause of your concerns, which may allow us to tailor your care using a variety of treatment options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Women's Health Physiotherapy

Pelvic health physiotherapy may be appropriate if you are living with chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, painful intercourse, or challenges with bladder and bowel control.

Many women also see us during pregnancy or postpartum for guidance on exercise, core recovery, and pelvic floor health.

Prolapse may present with a range of symptoms, including a sensation of heaviness or pressure in the pelvic region, a bulging or dragging feeling, difficulty managing bowel movements or bowel control, and discomfort during intimacy.

Our team’s experience extends beyond pelvic health to include musculoskeletal concerns such as back pain, hip pain, and pregnancy-related issues. We approach care holistically, with a focus on supporting your overall well-being and quality of life.

At your first appointment, your physiotherapist will take time to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and goals in detail. A thorough assessment will then be performed, which may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination (internal examination only with your consent)
  • Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess your core and pelvic floor activation

From there, we’ll work together to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs and comfort level.

As part of your treatment plan, manual therapy may be used to help address areas of tension or restriction in the pelvic region and surrounding musculoskeletal structures.

First appointments are usually around 60 minutes in length, incorporating a detailed consultation and physical assessment. Subsequent follow-up sessions generally take around 45 minutes, depending on the nature of your treatment plan.

No referral is required. You can book directly with us. However, if you have a referral from your GP or obstetrician, please bring it along so we may coordinate care as needed.

You don’t need to do anything special beforehand. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. If an internal examination is appropriate, your physio will discuss this with you in detail; it’s always optional and consent-based.

Every woman’s journey is different, and the number of sessions required will depend on your condition and goals. Many women may begin to notice positive changes within three to six sessions when their home exercise program is followed consistently.

At DX Physio, we are committed to supporting long-term recovery and function, not just providing short-term symptom relief.

Throughout pregnancy, physiotherapy may assist in managing back or pelvic girdle pain, supporting improved posture and helping to prepare your body for birth.

After childbirth, we assist with abdominal separation recovery, pelvic floor strengthening, pain management, and return to exercise.

Recovering from pelvic surgery may affect pelvic floor function, movement, and comfort in ways that aren’t always addressed in standard post-operative care. Our experienced team offers pelvic floor rehab to support your recovery at a pace that suits your body.

An important but often under-discussed area of women’s well-being is sexual health. Painful intercourse or tension in the pelvic floor muscles can have an impact on intimacy and overall quality of life.

Our physiotherapists offer compassionate, evidence-based care in a judgment-free environment to help you address these health concerns.

Where it is clinically appropriate, our team collaborates with other health professionals, including GPs and obstetricians, to support coordinated and comprehensive care. We are committed to a holistic approach that considers your overall well-being, not just a single aspect of your health.

Most private health funds include pelvic floor physiotherapy under Physiotherapy: Extras. Should you have a referral from your GP under an Enhanced Primary Care plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate covering up to five sessions per year. We can assist you in checking your eligibility when you book.

We understand that unexpected things come up. If you need to reschedule or cancel, we kindly request at least 24 hours’ notice to allow us to manage our appointments appropriately.

Please be aware that cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment, or missed appointments, may incur a cancellation fee, as your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you.
