Physio Care for Women at Every Stage of Life

Are you struggling with back pain, bladder leaks, or core weakness after birth? Is pelvic pain or painful intercourse affecting your daily life or intimacy?

Every woman’s health journey is unique and personal. At DX Physio, our experienced female physiotherapists deliver tailored women’s health physio care designed to help you move with confidence, strength, and comfort.

The Conditions We Aim to Help Women Navigate

Our women’s health physiotherapy programs are tailored to assist with a wide range of conditions, including pelvic floor concerns, postnatal care, and much more.

Ways Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy May Support You

Many women visit us with persistent back or hip pain that hasn’t responded to stretches, massage, or general physiotherapy. Despite their efforts, the discomfort continues to return.

What’s often missed is the pelvic region. When the pelvic muscles are weak, tight, or out of balance, especially after pregnancy, menopause, or surgery, they can affect your posture, stability, and even your breathing.

This is where women’s health physio may make a difference:

Confidence and Comfort

Our holistic approach may help you develop a better understanding of your body, build strength, and work toward feeling truly comfortable in your own skin.

Life’s Changes

The female body changes considerably over the course of a lifetime. Women's health physiotherapy may help you navigate these changes with greater comfort and confidence.

Open Conversations

Our women's health physiotherapists provide a safe, judgment-free space where you can speak openly and receive compassionate, personalised care.

Are birth, surgery, or menopause leaving you feeling less like yourself?

Our women’s health physios are here to help you on your journey towards feeling like yourself again.

Treatment Approaches for Pelvic Floor Physio in Naremburn

Our approach involves looking beyond the symptoms for the root cause of your concerns, which may allow us to tailor your care using a variety of treatment options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Women's Health Physiotherapy

If you are experiencing chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, painful intercourse, or difficulty managing your bladder or bowel function, pelvic floor physiotherapy may be worth considering.

It is also common for women to visit us during pregnancy or postpartum to receive guidance on appropriate exercise, core recovery, and pelvic floor health.

Prolapse may present with a range of symptoms, including a sensation of heaviness or pressure in the pelvic region, a bulging or dragging feeling, difficulty managing bowel movements or bowel control, and discomfort during intimacy.

Beyond pelvic health, our team also has experience assisting with musculoskeletal concerns, including back pain, hip pain, and pregnancy-related conditions. Our holistic approach to care is centred around supporting your overall quality of life.

Your first visit begins with an in-depth discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and goals. Your physiotherapist will then conduct a thorough assessment, which may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination (internal examination only with your consent)
  • Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess your core and pelvic floor activation

We’ll then work together to put together a personalised treatment plan that is suited to your goals, needs, and comfort level.

Manual therapy may form part of your personalised treatment plan, particularly where tension or restriction in the pelvic area and surrounding musculoskeletal structures needs to be addressed.

First appointments are usually around 60 minutes in length, incorporating a detailed consultation and physical assessment. Subsequent follow-up sessions generally take around 45 minutes, depending on the nature of your treatment plan.

No referral is required. You can book directly with us. However, if you have a referral from your GP or obstetrician, please bring it along so we may coordinate care as needed.

There is nothing specific you need to do to prepare for your first appointment. We suggest wearing comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Should an internal examination be appropriate, your physiotherapist will walk you through what this involves; it is always optional and entirely consent-based.

The number of sessions needed will vary depending on your individual condition and goals. Many women may begin to notice improvement within three to six sessions, particularly when their home exercise program is followed consistently.

Our approach is centred on long-term recovery and improved function, going beyond short-term symptom management.

Throughout pregnancy, physiotherapy may assist in managing back or pelvic girdle pain, supporting improved posture and helping to prepare your body for birth.

Following childbirth, our team may assist with abdominal separation recovery, pelvic floor strengthening, pain management, and a gradual return to exercise.

Pelvic surgery recovery may impact pelvic floor function, movement, and comfort in ways that are not always covered by standard post-operative care. Our team offers pelvic floor rehabilitation to support your recovery at a pace that works for your body.

An important but often under-discussed area of women’s well-being is sexual health. Painful intercourse or tension in the pelvic floor muscles can have an impact on intimacy and overall quality of life.

Our team of physiotherapists is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care in a judgment-free space, supporting you in addressing these health concerns with sensitivity and respect.

Our team works collaboratively with other health professionals, including GPs and obstetricians, wherever this is appropriate, to help keep your care coordinated and thorough. For us, holistic care means considering the full picture of your health, not just individual concerns.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is covered by most private health funds under Physiotherapy: Extras. If your general practitioner has referred you under an Enhanced Primary Care plan, you may also be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to five sessions per year. We are happy to help you check your eligibility at the time of booking.

We understand that life can be unpredictable. Should you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.

Please note that cancellations made within 24 hours or missed appointments may be subject to a cancellation fee, as your appointment time is held exclusively for you.
