Women's Health Physiotherapy at Every Stage of Life

Are back pain, bladder leaks, or core weakness after birth affecting your quality of life? Is pelvic pain or painful intercourse getting in the way of your daily activities or intimacy?

Women’s health is complex and deeply personal. At DX Physio, our experienced female physiotherapists offer tailored women’s health physio care designed to help you move with confidence, strength, and comfort.

Women's Health Conditions We May Assist With

Our women’s health physiotherapy services are designed to assist with a broad range of conditions, from pelvic floor concerns to postnatal care and beyond.

What Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy May Do For You

Many women come to us with ongoing back or hip pain that just never seems to go away. They may have tried stretches, massage, or general physio, but the pain keeps coming back.

The pelvic region is often an overlooked contributor to ongoing pain. When pelvic muscles are weak, tight, or imbalanced, particularly after pregnancy, menopause, or surgery, they may affect your posture, stability, and even your breathing patterns.

This is where women’s health physio may be able to support you:

Confidence and Comfort

Our holistic approach may help you develop a better understanding of your body, build strength, and work toward feeling truly comfortable in your own skin.

Life’s Changes

A woman's body changes significantly over a lifetime. Women's health physio may help you navigate each stage with greater ease.

Open Conversations

Our women's health physios offer a judgment-free space to talk openly and receive compassionate, targeted care.

Finding things difficult after birth, surgery, or menopause?

Our women’s health physiotherapists are here to support you on your journey back to feeling like yourself.

Treatment Approaches for Pelvic Floor Physio in Cremorne

By seeking to understand the underlying cause of your concerns, we may be able to better meet your individual needs and provide tailored care through a range of treatment approaches.

Your Women's Health Physiotherapy Questions Answered

If you are experiencing chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, painful intercourse, or difficulty managing your bladder or bowel function, pelvic floor physiotherapy may be worth considering.

Many women also see us during pregnancy or postpartum for guidance on exercise, core recovery, and pelvic floor health.

Prolapse symptoms may vary, but commonly include a sensation of heaviness or pressure in the pelvic region, a bulging or dragging feeling, difficulty with bowel movements or bowel control, and discomfort during intimacy.

Alongside pelvic health conditions, our team also has experience supporting musculoskeletal injuries such as back pain, hip pain, and pregnancy-related concerns. We take a holistic approach to health care and focus on addressing quality of life.

Your first visit begins with an in-depth discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and goals. Your physiotherapist will then conduct a thorough assessment, which may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination (internal examination only with your consent)
  • Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess your core and pelvic floor activation

Together, we’ll create a personalised treatment plan that suits your needs and comfort level.

Manual therapy may be incorporated into your treatment plan to help manage tension or restriction in the pelvic area and surrounding musculoskeletal structures.

Initial assessments are typically 60 minutes long, allowing time for a detailed consultation and physical assessment. Follow-up appointments are usually around 45 minutes, though this may vary depending on your individual treatment plan.

No referral is required. You can book directly with us. However, if you have a referral from your GP or obstetrician, please bring it along so we may coordinate care as needed.

You don’t need to do anything special beforehand. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. If an internal examination is appropriate, your physio will discuss this with you in detail; it’s always optional and consent-based.

This varies depending on your condition and goals. Most women may notice improvement within three to six sessions when following their home exercise program consistently.

At DX Physio, we are committed to supporting long-term recovery and function, not just providing short-term symptom relief.

During pregnancy, pelvic floor physiotherapy may help with the management of back or pelvic girdle pain, posture improvement, and physical preparation for birth.

After giving birth, we may assist with your abdominal separation recovery, pelvic floor strengthening, pain management, and a safe, supported return to exercise.

Pelvic surgery recovery may impact pelvic floor function, movement, and comfort in ways that are not always covered by standard post-operative care. Our team offers pelvic floor rehabilitation to support your recovery at a pace that works for your body.

An important but often under-discussed area of women’s well-being is sexual health. Painful intercourse or tension in the pelvic floor muscles can have an impact on intimacy and overall quality of life.

Our physiotherapists provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a supportive, judgment-free environment to help you work through these health concerns.

Our team works collaboratively with other health professionals, including GPs and obstetricians, wherever this is appropriate, to help keep your care coordinated and thorough. For us, holistic care means considering the full picture of your health, not just individual concerns.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is generally covered under Physiotherapy: Extras by most private health funds. If you have been referred by your general practitioner under an Enhanced Primary Care plan, you may also qualify for a Medicare rebate for up to five sessions per year. Our team can help you confirm your eligibility during the booking process.

Life can be busy, and plans can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours’ notice where possible.

Cancellations within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment or missed appointments may attract a cancellation fee, as that time has been set aside specifically for your care.
