WHAT A WOMEN'S HEALTH PHYSIO CAN DO FOR YOU

Many women come to us with ongoing back or hip pain that just never seems to go away. They may have tried stretches, massage, or general physio — but the pain keeps coming back. What’s often missed is the deeper connection: the pelvic floor. When the pelvic muscles are weak, tight, or out of balance — especially after pregnancy, menopause, or surgery — they can quietly affect your posture, stability, and even your breathing. That’s where Women’s Health Physio makes the difference.

At DX Physio, we don’t just treat your symptoms; we look for the root cause. We assess how your pelvic floor, core, and movement patterns all work together. Whether you’re recovering from birth, managing prolapse or incontinence, navigating menopause, or rebuilding strength after breast cancer, we help you move with confidence again. Our holistic approach helps you understand your body better — and empowers you to feel strong, supported, and truly at home in your body.

Frequently Asked Questions – Women’s Health Physiotherapy

How do I know if I need a pelvic health physiotherapist?

You may benefit from seeing a pelvic health physio if you experience symptoms such as bladder leakage, urgency, heaviness or bulging in the pelvic area, pelvic or lower back pain, painful intercourse, or difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels.
Many women also see us during pregnancy or postpartum for guidance on safe exercise, core recovery, and pelvic floor health.

Your first appointment includes a detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history, and goals.
Your physiotherapist will then perform a thorough assessment, which may include:

  • Posture and movement analysis
  • Abdominal and pelvic examination (internal examination only with your consent)

Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess your core and pelvic floor activation
Together, we’ll create a personalised treatment plan that suits your needs and comfort level.

Initial assessments usually take 60 minutes, as they include a detailed consultation and physical assessment.
Follow-up sessions are around 45 minutes, depending on your treatment plan.

No referral is required — you can book directly with us.
However, if you have a referral from your GP, obstetrician, or specialist, please bring it along so we can coordinate care as needed.

You don’t need to do anything special beforehand.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. If an internal examination is appropriate, your physio will discuss this with you in detail — it’s always optional and consent-based.

How many sessions will I need before I start to see improvement?

This varies depending on your condition and goals, but most women notice improvement within 3–6 sessions when following their home exercise program consistently.

We focus on long-term recovery and function, not just short-term symptom relief.

Absolutely.
During pregnancy, physiotherapy can help manage back or pelvic pain, improve posture, and prepare your body for birth.
After childbirth, we assist with abdominal separation recovery, pelvic floor strengthening, pain management, and safe return to exercise.

Yes — most private health funds cover pelvic floor physiotherapy under Physiotherapy – Extras.
If you are referred under an EPC plan from your GP, you may also be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to five sessions per year.
We can help you check your eligibility during booking.

We understand that life can be busy!
If you need to reschedule or cancel, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.
Cancellations within 24 hours or missed appointments may incur a cancellation fee, as this time is reserved especially for you.
